Chinese folk cutting, jianzhi: a single vermilion on white paper, with thin white nicks in place of light and shade. Pictures come out festive and gift-like — a figure in a robe among peonies, a round medallion, a landscape in tiers. The series is five separate cuttings on one theme: the figure whole, the head close up, a silhouette before a tiered landscape.
