Village folk painting: a clear outline, flat fills and crowds of pictogram figures all the same height, set out in rows and tiers. Fields, roofs and boats are laid as even bands of colour and a floral border often runs along the edge. The series is five frames of one place: the fields from above, the market rows, the workshop front, the winter and the harvest.
