A woodblock print in the manner of the Edo theatre masters: an even black outline, flat fills of indigo and vermilion, the white make-up of the stage. Pictures come out sharp and full of character, rage, disdain, a shout. The series is a gallery of five different figures on one theme: a face or a half-length figure against a dense field of colour.
